What is power snorkeling?

Power snorkeling—also called sea scooter snorkeling or Scooter Snorkeling—uses a hand-held powered scooter to help you glide through the water. You hold the scooter in front of you while its motor assists your movement. Your guide introduces the equipment and leads the experience, so you can concentrate on the view around you.

The tour is primarily enjoyed at the surface, breathing through your snorkel. You do not need to dive down to take part. Going below the surface is optional and depends on your confidence, conditions and your guide’s instructions.

This is a guided snorkeling experience, not scuba diving and not an unguided equipment rental. Swimming ability remains essential even with a scooter and flotation vest.

The sea scooter adds a playful, hands-on part to your time in the water. The guide helps you get comfortable with the equipment and find things you might otherwise miss. Complimentary photos give you something to revisit after the salt has dried.

Where do we explore?

Galleon Beach is our starting point. The waters around English Harbour offer opportunities to explore marine life, a nearby wreck and the coastal area around the Pillars of Hercules. Your guide chooses the route for the day’s conditions and group.

A route is not a promise of every location or animal on every departure. Visibility, sea conditions and the movement of wildlife all influence what you experience.

First time using a sea scooter?

You can be new to the equipment and still enjoy the tour if you are a confident swimmer. Tell your guide about your snorkeling experience during the briefing. Take time to understand how to hold, steer and stop the scooter before heading out.

If you are nervous about swimming itself, speak with us before reserving. A powered scooter makes this a different experience from ordinary snorkeling, but it does not remove the need to manage yourself in the water.

HOW THE DAY UNFOLDS

1. Meet at Galleon Beach

   Check in, complete the waiver and photo form, and meet your guide.

2. Get comfortable with the gear

   Fit your mask, fins and vest, then learn to hold and operate your sea scooter.

3. Enter the water with your guide

   Start from the shore and settle into the experience at the surface.

4. Explore the underwater world

   Follow the guide and look for turtles, fish and other sights along the day’s route.

5. Return with a story to share

   Finish back at the beach and follow your photo instructions after the tour.

Is this right for you?

Swimming

You must be able to swim and feel comfortable in open water. The scooter assists movement; it is not a substitute for swimming ability.

Age guidance

Recommended ages 10–70. A confident swimmer aged 8–9, or an active guest over 70, may be considered by the team before booking. Exceptions need advance approval.

Physical activity

An active water experience: swimming, holding a scooter and following a guide. Conditions can change the effort involved.

Access & support

Shore entry and in-water participation are required. Ask the team about your specific mobility, sensory or support needs before booking.

Wildlife & conditions

Turtle sightings are not guaranteed. Skylork estimates a 95% chance of seeing turtles on Scooter Snorkeling. Turtles are wild animals, and conditions and sightings vary from tour to tour.

If weather does not permit safe snorkeling, we will first try to rebook you. If no suitable alternative is possible during your remaining time in Antigua, we will issue a full refund.
