RUM-MAKING MASTERCLASS · GALLEON BEACH

Academy of Rum
in Antigua.
Create something entirely your own.

Join an interactive rum-making masterclass in Academy of Rum’s open-air, sea-view classroom at Galleon Beach. Develop a flavour recipe, work with a small pot still, taste and refine your spirit, then bottle and label your own 750 ml rum to take home.

Experience

Academy of Rum

Duration

1–1½ hours for the rum-making class. Allow 2½ hours for your full visit. Larger groups may need longer for preparation and the experience.

Sessions

Usual daily classes: 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm, Antigua time. The calendar confirms actual availability.

Group size

Up to 20 guests per class; remaining places are shown in the booking calendar.

What do you make?

You create a personal rum recipe using a selection of flavouring samples, then learn how tasting and blending influence the final result. The experience turns the idea of a Caribbean rum into something you build with your own hands.

Each guest works at a small pot-still station. Your rum is bottled, given a personalized label and wax sealed so the finished 750 ml bottle can travel home as a keepsake.

A masterclass with a sea view

Academy of Rum is based in an open-air classroom at Galleon Beach in Antigua’s Freeman’s Bay. The setting connects the class to the beach and the Caribbean landscape while the rum expert leads the practical process.

This is a separate bookable experience from Scooter Snorkeling. You do not need to swim, enter the sea or take part in a water activity.

From flavour idea to finished bottle

The class moves through recipe creation, distilling, tasting, blending, bottling and labelling. Listen to the instructor at each stage, especially when working around the still and handling alcohol.

Your booking calendar shows the current class time, price, availability and complete participation terms. Review them before payment.

Add transportation separately

Round-trip transportation is not automatically included with the Academy of Rum class. It must be selected through the correct transport booking option or confirmed directly with the team.

Share your accommodation or cruise details, group size and preferred class before arranging transport. Contact our team to confirm pickup, return arrangements and the transportation price.

Where do I see the current price?

Open the Academy of Rum booking calendar to see live availability, the current price and the complete booking terms.

Which departure should cruise passengers choose?

Choose the earliest departure that realistically fits your ship’s arrival and disembarkation time. Earlier sessions leave more time for the return journey and unexpected delays. Share your ship name, arrival time and all-aboard time before booking; do not choose an afternoon session without checking that the full visit fits.

How long is the journey from the cruise port to English Harbour?

For planning, allow about an hour each way by road between the St John’s cruise port and Galleon Beach in English Harbour. This is a planning allowance, not a guaranteed transfer time. Traffic, your pickup point and port congestion can change the journey; confirm pickup and return timing with your driver or our team.

Will I make it back to my ship on time?

We can help you choose a session and return plan around your ship’s all-aboard deadline. Book an earlier departure and allow time for disembarkation, both road journeys, the activity, the briefing and a generous return buffer. Traffic and ship schedules are outside our control, so we cannot give an unconditional return guarantee. Confirm the plan before booking if time is tight.

How much time should I allow for a cruise-day visit?

Allow 2½ hours at the activity, plus road travel in both directions and extra time for port procedures and delays. This visit allowance includes preparation and, for water activities, orientation and the safety briefing; do not add that briefing again. Larger groups may take longer for preparation and the tour. Choose an earlier departure and plan around your ship’s all-aboard deadline, allowing for any difference between ship time and Antigua local time.

Is round-trip transportation included?

Transportation is booked separately. Use our transportation page to reserve the appropriate round-trip transfer, and confirm your pickup point, pickup time and return arrangements for your chosen activity.

What is your cancellation policy?

All activities on this website follow a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled start time for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the start time are charged 100%, except when weather prevents an affected snorkeling activity and rebooking is not possible, a qualifying cruise disruption prevents attendance, or Skylork Ltd approves an illness refund.

What if my cruise ship changes itinerary or cannot dock?

We offer a full refund if your ship changes itinerary or cannot dock and this prevents you from attending your booked activity. Let us know as soon as possible and share your booking details and the cruise line’s notice.

Can I get a refund if I am sick?

Please contact us promptly if you are unwell, and do not join a water activity while sick. Within the 48-hour cancellation window, refunds for illness are at the discretion of Skylork Ltd and are not automatic. Cancellations made at least 48 hours ahead follow our standard full-refund policy.

Why is there a 48-hour cancellation window?

We have limited spaces each day. Your booking reserves a place that we cannot sell to another guest. Last-minute cancellations often leave too little time to refill that space, so please plan responsibly and notify us as early as possible.

NEED A ROUND-TRIP RIDE?

Book the class first. Arrange transportation separately.

The Academy of Rum calendar books the masterclass only. Choose transportation for your confirmed class date and time, and review the pickup instructions before paying.
