Arrive sober and ready to participate
Please act responsibly and avoid alcohol before snorkeling. Arrive sober, ready to swim and able to follow the safety briefing. Do not schedule an alcohol-tasting experience before a snorkeling activity. Tell your guide if you feel unwell or unable to participate safely.
Choose an experience that fits the guest
Start with swimming ability, water confidence, age, physical comfort and the type of activity. Scooter Snorkeling and our snorkeling experiences require swimming ability and confidence in open water. A powered scooter and a flotation vest assist the experience; neither replaces the ability to swim.
Sea Cycle and SeaNXT use different equipment and have their own participation rules. Academy of Rum is not an in-water experience. Compare the activity pages and contact the operator before booking if you are uncertain which option fits someone in your group.
When not to enter the water
Scooter Snorkeling is not suitable for non-swimmers or anyone unable to remain comfortable and in control in open water. Do not participate while unwell, intoxicated, unusually breathless, dizzy or experiencing chest pain. Tell the team immediately; chest pain, severe breathing difficulty or loss of consciousness needs urgent medical attention.
Do not enter the water if a medical professional has advised you against swimming or physical exertion, or if a condition is currently uncontrolled and could affect breathing, awareness or movement.
Medical conditions to discuss before booking
Ask your doctor about the demands of guided open-water snorkeling if you have heart disease, a heart rhythm condition, significant high blood pressure, asthma or another lung or breathing condition. Explain that the activity involves swimming, breathing through a snorkel and using a powered sea scooter in the sea.
Seek individual medical advice before booking if you have epilepsy or seizures, unexplained fainting or blackouts, or diabetes with episodes of low blood sugar. Conditions that can suddenly affect awareness or your ability to help yourself need particular consideration in the water.
Contact us before booking about recent surgery or injury, significant neck, back or joint problems, limited mobility, or panic attacks in open water. These can affect entry and exit, swimming, holding the scooter or following instructions.
If you are pregnant, ask your maternity clinician whether this specific open-water activity is appropriate and contact us before reserving. Also discuss any medication that causes drowsiness, dizziness or reduced alertness with your prescriber; do not stop prescribed medication to join a tour.
A diagnosis alone does not automatically rule everyone out. Suitability depends on your individual health, how well a condition is controlled and the demands of the selected activity. This guidance is not medical clearance or an exhaustive list. Speak with your clinician and our team before booking if you are unsure; tell your guide if anything changes on the day.
Use the equipment and listen to the briefing
Scooter Snorkeling includes the sea scooter, mask, snorkel, fins, flotation vest, equipment fitting and a guide-led safety briefing. Keep the scooter under control, maintain space from other guests and use the stop and handling instructions demonstrated by the guide.
Equipment and procedures differ between activities. Use only the equipment assigned to you, report an uncomfortable fit or problem immediately and ask questions before entering the water or starting the activity.
Follow the guide and the conditions
Weather, visibility, current and sea state can change. The guide or operator may adjust the route, delay, reschedule or cancel an activity when conditions require it. Stay with the group and do not leave the guided route to chase wildlife, reach a landmark or recreate a photograph.
If you feel tired, uncomfortable or unwell, signal the guide promptly. Never continue merely because the rest of the group is continuing.
Children and family groups
Age guidance is activity-specific. Share children’s ages, swimming experience and water confidence before booking, and review whether tandem participation or adult supervision is required for the option you select.
A parent or guardian should not assume that a child’s comfort in a pool automatically means confidence in open water. Ask the operator about the actual setting and equipment before making a reservation.
Protect yourself and the marine environment
Bring suitable sun protection, hydrate and avoid entering a water activity while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Do not touch, chase, feed or crowd turtles and other wildlife. Watch your fins and equipment around the seabed and follow the guide’s directions.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Safe, respectful observation matters more than getting close for a photograph.
Academy of Rum participation
Academy of Rum is a classroom-based experience involving alcohol. Anyone tasting or consuming alcohol must meet the applicable legal-age and booking requirements. Review the live booking terms and ask the Academy before booking younger guests.
Consider arranging round-trip transportation and tell the Academy in advance about relevant allergies, access needs or participation questions. Do not drive after consuming alcohol.
Before your booked experience
Read the confirmation for the meeting point, check-in time, inclusions, participation rules and cancellation terms. Arrive ready for the briefing and tell the team if anything affecting participation has changed since booking.
This page provides general planning guidance. Your booking confirmation, the operator’s current rules and the guide’s instructions for the day control the experience.
